Generation Dead By: Daniel Waters

Generation Dead
By: Daniel Waters
*****
Phoebe, a goth to the bone girl, is the main character of this interesting story. Adam is her best friend, football star, next door neighbor. Margi is her best friend. Together they experience life with the “differently biotic” – each are affected a different way.

Phoebe becomes fascinated and starts to fall for Tommy, the leader of the “differently biotic” kids. Since all of the zombies, as they like to call themselves, don’t come back the same – meaning some move and communicate better than others – Tommy makes sure some of the lower functioning ones aren’t left alone walking through the halls or in the cafeteria. Phoebe’s feelings for Tommy cause a lot of talk. People can’t believe she would want to have anything to do with a dead person.

Adam has to deal with Tommy in his own way. Tommy decides he wants to join the football team. The coach doesn’t want him to, of course, but the principal tells him he has no choice. Adam is the only player that gives Tommy a chance and sees what a great player he really is. The problem is, Adam starts to realize he has feelings that go beyond friendship for Phoebe and a love triangle is formed.

Margi can’t understand why Phoebe is warming up to the zombies. One of their best friends is one and Margi can’t seem to get past that Colette was once alive and hung out with them all the time. She struggles to see what Phoebe likes about the zombies.

Once Margi and Colette become friends again, the homecoming dance is nearing. Margi, Phoebe, Adam, Thorny, and Margi's homecoming date, Norm are all invited to an afterparty at the Haunted House after homecoming. Phoebe sees Adam at the dance and they apologize to one another for their argument. They all head to the Haunted House party. A while into the party, Tommy takes Phoebe outside to talk to her in the Oxoboxo woods. They sit and talk, and Phoebe asks why Tommy thinks him and his living like Colette, Sylvia, and Tayshawn's families never accepted them being undead. Tommy tells Phoebe that he thinks if he found a living girl to kiss him, that he'd feel even more alive. Right when Phoebe was about to kiss him, she is snatched away.

Pete, hallucinating that Phoebe is Julie and she was about to cheat on him with Tommy, tells his buddy and sidekick Timothy Cole (TC) Stavis to hold Phoebe still so he can get a good shot at her. Meanwhile, back at the party, Karen tells Adam that he must tell Phoebe that he loves her, unless he wants to die without her knowing. Adam quickly thanks her, and heads out the back door to find Phoebe and tell her how he feels. He hears her scream, and heads in that direction calling her name. Once he sees Pete about to shoot, he jumps in front and takes the bullet for Phoebe in the chest. Scared to death that they shot the wrong person, Stavis runs away, and Pete follows, only to be stopped by Takayuki and scared out of his mind.

The zombies had gathered around Adam's body with Phoebe screaming and telling them to do something. Karen pronounces Adam dead, and within minutes, he rises again, unable to speak. He tells Phoebe he loves her, but it just comes out as an incoherent gargle. Phoebe then makes a promise to herself and Adam that she will try and bring him back as much as she possibly can.

My favorite part in the book is when Phoebe is at homecoming and is dancing with Tommy making him feel alive. This is my favorite part because it shows how much Phoebe cares for Tommy and all she wants to do is to make him feel alive.

Christmas Was on Thursday!

Christmas was on Thursday! In Denmark and Scandanavia it is but in America and almost everywhere else it's today. Well, when I woke up I totally forgot it was Christmas. But when I went to my advent chocolate calender it said the 24th which means Christmas! I woke up really early at seven. I'm not allowed to wake my brother and my grandparents were up late the day before so I went into the living room to watch TV. When my grandparents woke up and saw that I was awake, they were so surprised because I'm usually the last one to wake up. We said Merry Christmas to each other and had breakfast.

***
I was sitting on my bean bag reading Generation Dead By: Daniel Waters when I heard the doorbell ring. My grandparents just came back from church and I didn't have to go because I went yesterday. I opened up the door and saw Irene with Anton and Bertil. Anton is a shitzu dog and Bertil is a Tibetan Terrier dog. My three dogs are also Tibetan Terries. Bertil is my oldest dog Thimphu's son and brother to Tashi and Thupthen. They started playing right away but Anton stayed close to Irene. Irene came in and gave me a hug and then waited in the living room. Then about 10 minutes later Lise rang the doorbell. I went out and greeted her and then we all sat down and ate dinner. After dinner we went to the Christmas tree and sang a couple of songs. Then my brother and I got to give out the presents. I got a lot of presents but the best one was probably the camera and the printer. After that we all just lounged around and ate candy.

Stranger With My Face

Stranger With My Face
By: Lois Duncan
*****
Stranger With My Face is about 16 year-old Laurie Stratton and her long lost twin sister Lia Abbot. It all starts when she gets a stomach flu right before a big christmas party that she was supposed to attend. Her boyfriend still makes and claims he saw her on the beach. He gets really suspicious and suddenly thinks she's cheating on him and then dumps him. Laurie then finds out about Lia. Her parents told her that she was adopted and it suddenly made sense to Laurie that Lia was somehow doing this. Her friend Ellen thinks it's from astral projection. She says that native amerícans can do it. Lia starts getting jealous of Ellen and then tricks Ellen into following her because Ellen thinks she's Laurie. Lia pushes Ellen down a flight of slippery stairs and Ellen falls into a colma. Everyone blames a boy named Jeff who was with Ellen that night. Jeff and Laurie become close friends and then Lia becomes jealous of Jeff. Lia doesn't want anyone near Laurie. Lia tricks Jeff with astral projection. Astral projection is when your body stays where it is but your spirit goes somewhere else. Lia shows up on some slippery rocks infront of Lauries house. Jeff falls into a whole and breaks his leg. When Jeff never shows up to the dinner Laurie starts getting worried. When she looks over her balcony she sees some books Jeff was supposed to bring over on a rock. Laurie runs down to get a look. She then falls in too and her parents get worried so they look after her. When they find them Laurie swears she's going to learn astral projection and find her sister. When Laurie finally learns how she goes out searching for Lia. She finds Lia in a mental hospital. When she walks in Lia isn't breathing which means she's out doing astral projection. When Laurie returns home she can't get back into her own body. When someone wakes up in her body she finally realizes Lia has taken her body. Lauries little sister notices how different Lia is and starts investagating. Jeff then meets Lia at the ferry they take to school. He gives her her necklace back. It was made out of turquoise and protected her from all bad and evil things. When he gives it to the person he thought was Laurie she backs away scared. When Laurie's little sister comes and tells Jeff the whole story he realizes that it's Lia in Laurie's body. Jeff throws the necklace at Laurie's body and Lia immediatly hops out of the body. Laurie who was thankfully close by swooped back into her own body. They later find out that since Lia's body wasn't breathing they thought she was dead so they cremated her. Lia lives in the winds now.

My favorite part is when Jeff and Margaret (Laurie's little sister) find out that it's Lia not Laurie and throw the necklace at Laurie's body. This is my favorite part because it's just like Eureka! Also because it makes a happy ending in the book.

Can't this count as three?

I haven't posted in a lot of days because so many things have happened.

Sunday
On Sunday my grandparents kept telling me they had a surprise for me. I didn't know what it was, though I thought it would probably involve some of my friends from summer. After I had a very quick lunch because my grandparents said the surprise was soon, my brother left to go with my Aunt. They went to a forest and went walking with some other dogs because they were a part of the Hunde Klubben (The Dog Club). When someone rang on the door I was very excited. I went to see who it was and it was Signe (pronounced- Seene). She is one fourth indian and three fourths danish. Signe is my next door neighbor so she hitched a ride with me and my grandparents. I found out that we were going to watch a movie while I was in the car. I Denmark you have to order your movie tickets 20 minutes before the movie starts. We were in a big line to get to the parking place. It was 12:40 and the movie started at: 1:10, it felt like we were never going to make it. We got in when it was 12:45 and my grandparents gave me there online ticket reservation sheet. Signe and I ran upstairs to get the trade the paper for tickets. When the lady gave us the tickets we saw that there were 4 of them. So, I guess my grandparents were going to watch with us. I kept reading and saw we were going to watch Avatar in 3D! I was so psyched! Signe quickly called her brothers and dad and told them that were going to watch Avatar, they were so jealous. When I was standing waiting for my grandparents who (still) hadn't made it up, I thought I saw a girl named Anna. She looked at me and said, "Oh hi!" She gave me a present and I said thanks. So I guess only my grandma was watching with us then. When my grandparents came they said there was still one more person. I hoped it would be my bestfriend Line. When someone shouted my name everyone looked. I mean EVERYONE! Line! It was her, she had a cast on her arm because she broke during gymnastics. She is sueing her doctor because before she broke her arm that time she broke it when biking down a hill. Her doctor said it was okay to do active things now, but apparently it wasn't because she broke her arm AGAIN! When everyone was finally here we went in to watch the movie.

So the girl with the rose in her hair is Anna.
Line is the one with the cast on her arm.
Signe is the one sitting next to me.

Monday
On Monday, the beggining of the day was just boring and sitting around watching TV. But when it was 5:00 pm. we had to go to the teather. Not a cinema theaters but like a stage theater. The theater is over 70 years old. We were going to watch the Golden Compass there. When it was 4:15 my grandparents came in making a lot of noise. They've been stuck at the supermarket parking lot for 1 hour. The people in front of them couldn't get thier cars to go up the ramp because it was to slippery. When people finally started moving the man infront let 4 or 5 cars go infront of him. Then, when it was his turn to go out he fell asleep! Actually fell ASLEEP! My grandma got so mad that she got out of the car and told him to wake up or else she'd call the police to move him. When they got home, we were in such a hurry. We made it just in time to find our seats and sit down. It was a really good show.

Today
Today I had some visits from some friends named Amalie and Frederik. We had it really fun in the snow since it was up to our knees. We took a shovel and made a maze. If we stepped outside the routes then the other two people were allowed to smother snowballs across your face! I accidently stepped out twice and my cheeks are still red from it. Then we made a snowman. When we were done with the body, my grandpa threw a carrot out to us. We didn't catch and then it went into the snow. We spent 20 minutes looking for it until we found it right next to Amalie's leg. We put in buttons and a carrot and sculpted icicles out of snow and made that hair. We then named him Blackverde. Then Frederik took a shovel and started `trimming´ it. He made his body into squares instead of spheres and shaved off all his hair! Then he took the shovel and hit Blackverde right on the top of his head so now he has a big crack on his forehead. We went back in because we were freezing.

December break in 8 days!! :P

Yay! Only 8 more days till December break. I can't wait to go to Denmark and meet some of my old friends again. I'm going to be spending my birthday on the plane. . .=( Last time that happened they brought out a cake for me and sang happy birthday! For the first time my brother and I will be flying on our own. I'm really nervous about it since my brother never listens to me. I can get really cross with him sometimes because he thinks he can do whatever he wants. He tells me that last year in kindergarten they learned that they are the boss of themselves. When I tell him that's not true he says "You're not the boss of me," And then sticks out his tongue. He annoys me a lot and he's also VERY greedy and selfish. But. . . He's my brother. Well anyways, for the December break I'll try to post a lot of videos since I just got a mac! It's actually my cousin's old one, but she needed more hard drive space so she gave me her macbook pro! I've been wanting one ever since 5th grade. For Christmas I would really like a new camera since mine broke. It broke because when I had a sleepover with Saige and Vanessa, we took pictures and we dropped the camera A LOT. Then, the next day when I turned it on it didn't work.

When I Got Lost in a Book

Day 1
I tip toed carefully into the study. The sunlight streamed in through the windows. I didn't know why I was being so careful. . . I guess I just sensed from the atmosphere that I had to be as still as possible. I pulled out a chair and crumpled my eyes together as it made a loud screeching sound. I sat down and carefully slid the chair closser to the desk. I opened my book bag trying to make as little sound possible as I started to unzip the zipper. I pulled out the book that Sophie gave me for my birthday. It had a plain black cover but as soon as I opened to the first page of the book my eyes came to life as they swam in color. Purple, Green, Blue, Pink, Red, Orange, Yellow and loads more were splashed across the page and in the middle in thick gold letters the words, "The Magical & The Mysterious" stood outshining all the colors. I flipped to the next page and saw that there was a boy. He had black hair that covered one of his eyes and the one eye you couldn see was an amazingly clear green color that you could probably see from miles away. He was wearing jeans and a black and blue striped t-shirt. He could blend in just as well as any of the other boys at my school. When I flipped to the next page it was empty and so was the next, and the next, and the next. What? I closed the book and carefully put everything back into place as I left the room for lunch.
