The Alchymest
(YAY I have another book post :P)
By: Michael Scott
*****
The Alchymest is one of my all time favorite books, I have read it 4 times and each time I still am amazed by the surprise and action in the book. The Alchymest is about two twins, Josh and Sophie Newman, who are destined to be the legends of the Codex. They first find out that they are the twins of the prophecy when the meet Nicholas Flamel. Josh worked in Nicholas book store when Dr.Dee came in to the bookstore and started an all out war. Josh was amazed, he saw things that only existed in books. Magic balls of mist came flowing out of hands, people actually glowed and without even touching them you could hurt someone. Dee reached out and took the Codex. Josh didn't know why but suddenly he ran up to Dee and pulled out 2 pages of the book. When Nicholas wife Pernelle reaches out to touch Josh she sees his aura is gold. The last person that was known to have a golden aura was King Tut, Pernelle insisted that she meet Sophie. When Pernelle touches Sophie her aura flares Sliver the last person known to have a sliver aura was Joan of Arc. Nicholas figures out that Sophie and Josh aren't just normal teenagers, they are the legend of the Codex. The Codex is a book that predicts the future and according to the Codex if the legends of the Codex aren't put into action to stop Dee and the Dark Elders the world as well as the whole human race would come to an end. While everyone is amazed by the 2 twins unexpectedly Dee grabs Pernelle and captures her. Nicholas Flamel stares in awe as his wife is dragged away knowing he could do nothing to stop it. Flamel wuickly reached out to see what pages Josh had ripped out. As he looked over them he relized that Josh had taken out the 2 most important pages, the final summoning. Relieved Flamel quickly got everyone in the car for a little road trip. Flamel and the twins travel for hours and finally reach their destination. A castle. They all step in heistantly searching for a door. When they find the door they step in to find Scatty a vegetarian vampire sitting in the center of the room. They force Scatty to accompany them on thier mission to get the codex. They travel into Hekate's shawdow realm and live there for a couple of days until Dee finds wahere they are hiding and starts a war. When they find out Dee is in the shadowrealm Hekate frantically awakens Sophie's inner powers so that now she can do magic. Dee not only destroys the shadowrealm but gets away with destroying the tree of life. Flamel, Scatty and the twins just barely escape and decide to go to Ojai. In Ojai they meet they the Witch of Endor who has mastered the skill of air. Sophie's powers, raw and untamed, need to get trained and the Witch helps her by passing on all her 2500 years of knowledge. Dee finds they are hiding in Ojai and manages to get there before leaving. Josh, being mortal, is forced to wait outside while his twin sister is becoming someone he barely knows. Dee finds Josh outside, and being the master of lies gets into his mind and makes him believe that Flamel is a criminal and should not be trusted. The Witch suddenly realizes Dee has arrived and quickly finishes up with what she was doing and runs outside. She covers the whole place with mist and quickly grabs Josh and runs away with him into her shop while Dee awakens the graveyard in Ojai. Right when the skeletons burst open the door they travel through a leygate. That's where the book ends.

My Favorite Part

My favorite part in the book is when Sophie gets awakened. I like this part because she describes how it was to feel awakened and how her head was just filtering with information she had no idea where it came from.

Wow this book series seems a lot like the Septimus Heap Series. It's about a child with magical powers. A lot of books I think are like that, all somehow playing off Harry Potter.
